Our Story
Meet Our Founder
Hi, I'm Asmi and I'm so excited that you are here!
I wanted to share a little about my unlikely journey to becoming an entrepreneur. I grew up in New Jersey in a Gujarati Jain family. Throughout my childhood I was exposed to ancient Indian traditions and rituals. When my parents unexpectedly passed away in 2009 my life changed overnight. I turned to the wisdom of my ancestors to find a way through the grief and depression. Through my journey of healing I have studied yoga philosophy (including asana, meditation, pranayama, mantras), sound healing, and pranic healing.
I’ve started Soul Tara as a way to create accessible products that can help people on their journey of healing, growth, and spiritual development.
I continue to lead asana and meditation classes, sound healing, and other in-person events. Learn more asmishah.com.
How It Started...
At the end of 2021 I was deep into my healing journey and reeling as the world was recovering from Covid. I wanted to reconcile my spiritual studies with the world around me. I was living in NYC and working a demanding job in tech. I wanted to be more intentional with my life, but I didn't know where to start. I decided to create a list of questions to answer at the end of the year and the first version of Cosmic Starlight was born (though it used to be called Transitions back then!).
Time to Launch!
I had been working on this end of year journal in the background for 3 years. My husband and I filled it out every December 31st and found it to be a deeply insightful experience. At the end of 2023 I resolved that I wanted to share this journal with others with the intention of helping them on their journey of growth and healing.
Soul Tara was founded in 2024 with the goal of making products to help people. To make this dream a reality we ran a Kickstarter campaign where we raised over $,1900! We are so grateful to our community for the love and support. Our first product is Cosmic Starlight and we are so excited to share it with the world!
The Meaning of Soul Tara
Soul Tara is a reference to my interest as a spiritual student - “soul” is the English word to capture what it is beyond the physical body that is us and “tara” is the Sanskrit word for star. Soul Star is thought to be the chakra that is about 12” above our head and connects to a higher power. The company name reflects my experience as an Indian American and the ultimate goal to help bring each of us closer to supreme consciousness.
Woman of Color Founder
Soul Tara is a labor of love and it is our intention to delight you every step of the way. We are proud to be a WOC-founded company in the wellness space. We know how meaningful it is to have an inclusive space and are delighted to be on this journey with our customers and supporters. We want to be exemplary in the wellness and healing category.
Our Team
We are starting small and I'm lucky to say that I'm on this journey with my husband, Amit Budhiraja. If you've seen Soul Tara on social media, it's all thanks to him. Amit leads social media, fulfillment, and in-person markets. Between the two of us we manage all odds and ends.
